Abstract

The scarcity of clean water is one of the common problems that often occur, especially in coastal areas. Therefore, water treatment is necessary before use to turn initially poor-quality water into clean water that meets the standards of pH, TDS, and turbidity. The purpose of this research is to design and create a purification and salinity level monitoring system using a closed-loop control based on IoT (Internet of Things). In this study, the author employed the filtration method for water purification, using filter media such as coconut coir, silica sand, zeolite, and activated charcoal. Among several samples of filter formulas tested, the author decided to use sample L as the final formula. The final testing results showed an increase in pH from 6.4 NTU to 6.78 NTU, a decrease in TDS from 1180 ppm to 1104 ppm, and a reduction in turbidity from 3.2 to 1.16, which was obtained after the first loop iteration. Based on the test results, the filter worked effectively, although the decrease in TDS was not significant, and these values can be monitored both on the LCD display and through the application.
