Abstract

Paper is a material that is often used as a medium for writing, painting, making documents and others. Because it is easy to find, paper is one of the most important materials in various fields such as industry, offices and others. Many paper shredding machines have been produced, but they can only chop paper with a small capacity. The aim of this final project is to design and manufacture a paper chopping machine that is capable of chopping paper with a capacity of 50 kg/hour with a chopped output of ± 2 cm in an effort to increase work efficiency and productivity. The design method used in the final project of this paper chopping machine is the VDI 2222 method (Verein Deutcher Ingenieure / German Engineers Association). Based on the design and trial results, the paper shredding machine uses an electric motor, a pulley and v-belt transmission system, and 8 circular saw blades, and from the trial results, this machine can shred paper with a capacity of 50 kg in 34.7 minutes with a chopped yield of ± 2 cm. The conclusion obtained is that the paper chopping machine that is made can chop paper in accordance with existing demands.
