Abstract

Gambir is the name of a type of tropical plant that lives and grows vines on the ground, there are several processes that will be carried out by gambier farmers. According to farmers, the most energy-consuming process is during the pressing process because the process of making gambier is all still using traditional tools, namely with large wood and it is very difficult to find nowadays. So a modern presstool was created which aims to simplify the process of pressing boiled gambier leaves, and to replace traditional tools that are difficult to obtain. The purpose of this research is to design and modify a modern gambier leaf press. The stages in making this pressing device start from problem identification (field survey and literature study), problem formulation and research, data collection, data processing, planning, design, tool making, assembly, testing, analysis and maintenance, conclusions. Based on the results of the trials that have been carried out, the machine is able to press the gambier leaves to the maximum.
