Abstract

Tayu tea plant is a type of tea native to West Bangka, specifically in Tayu Hamlet, Ketap Village, Jebus District, and is known for its benefits as a herbal drink. However, the processing of this tea is still done manually and can be quite troublesome. In addition, there are several issues with the previous machine, such as dried tea leaves entering the holes of the perforated drum and the drying process not being continuous, as the machine must be turned off when inserting or removing materials. Through this final project, a continuous rotary dryer system for roasting Tayu tea leaves was designed. This machine uses a perforated stainles steel drum with 1 mm hole size and is equipped with internal fins that help stir and push the tea leaves automatically to the output once dried. The design process followed the VDI 2222 method, starting from problem identification, concept development, simulation, to prototype creation. This design is expected to help improve the productivity and quality of continuous Tayu tea processing.
