Abstract

Advancements in industrial automation technology necessitate learning tools that enhance students' understanding of control systems based on Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs). This study involved the design of an Outseal PLC Nano V.5 trainer kit paired with a Modbus HMI application to serve as a learning aid for industrial control and automation systems. The system utilizes the Outseal PLC Nano V.5—programmed via ladder logic—and connects to an Android-based Modbus HMI application using the Modbus RTU protocol over a Bluetooth HC-06 module for real-time monitoring and control. Testing results demonstrate that all input, output, and communication components function according to the program; the proximity sensor detects objects within a 1–5 mm range, the photoelectric sensor operates up to 30 cm, and the Modbus HMI application successfully displays PLC status in real-time. Based on functional testing of all components and questionnaire results from 10 respondents—indicating an 80% ease-of-use rating. The trainer kit is deemed suitable for use as a learning tool for Outseal PLC Nano V.5-based systems utilizing the Modbus HMI application.
