Abstract

Currently, oil palm brondol is widely used as animal feed. One of them is as cattle feed because palm brondol has a lot of protein content. One of the processes of processing oil palm brondol as animal feed is the chopping process so that the palm brondol becomes softer, making it easier for livestock to digest. In 2022, Arfandi et al. made a palm brondol chopping machine with a crusher system and used a standard circular saw blade. This research is an improvement in the performance of the previous machine, namely in the shape of the hopper and changes in the cutter spacer which can be assembled without dismantling other components. However, maintenance and repair of the cutting edge on this machine is still difficult in its arrangement, because it must disassemble all components related to the cutter system. So the purpose of this research is to design and build a palm brondol chopper machine with a knockdown cutter system and the time to disassemble the cutter system is no more than 10 minutes. The design method used is the VDI 2222 method. Based on the design results, the knockdown system applied uses bolt and nut connections, the dismantling of the cutter system is enough to remove the cutter unit without dismantling other components. The stages of disassembling the cutter system on this machine are only 3 stages and use 5 (five) tools. Based on the results of the trials that have been carried out, the disassembly process takes an average time of 5 minutes.
