Abstract

Clams are a type of mollusk that have a hard shell and a soft body, living in both seawater and freshwater, and they serve as a source of food for humans as well as animals. Besides the clam meat being used as a food source, it turns out that clam shells can also be used as feed supplements for livestock because they contain calcium, which can help bone growth and egg production in poultry. The purpose of this research is to design a machine to make clam shell powder effectively to help local farmers meet the needs for additional livestock feed. The design method refers to the VDI 2222 systematic approach, through the stages of data collection, conceptualization, design, and completed. A design was created for a shell flour making machine as a feed additive for livestock, with machine specifications using a 6.5 hp combustion engine and a V-belt transmission system, with a maximum capacity of 1 kg per process. Based on the results of component configuration simulations and assembly part simulations in SolidWorks software, or performance validation of the system to ensure function suitability before the prototype stage.
